Salam Perantauan ( An Eidul-Fitr Message )

To Mother, Father , family and friends all over the globe;

I might not be able to hear the usual tear-inducing , heart wrenching takbir raya on Eid morning,

I might not be able to wear baju kurung and compliment each other on how fabulous we look,

I might not be able verbally say i am sorry for all my mistakes and mintak halal makan minum ,

I might not be able to go convoying to visit grandparents, uncles, aunties ,cousins et al,

I might not be able to attend various open house invitations every week,

I might not be able to join in the sparklers playing and annoy the neighbourhood with thunderous firecrackers with special mention towards the thunderclap kind ( not forgetting the meriam buluh, mercun naga, mercun bola, mercun gasing and for the faint hearted ~ mercun pop pop )

I might not be able to help baking the cookies and kek lapis,

I might not be able to gather with friends and collect duit raya

I might not be able to customarily receive your duit raya for that matter ( and this upsets me utterly beyond comprehension )

I might not be able to feel the excitement of sending and receiving kad rayas with pretty, embossed khat writings and  floral patterns

I might not be able to eat the traditional feast of rendang, ketupat, lemang, satay , kuah kacang , and the non-stop onslaught of foodfest so ubiquituous of our Aidilfitri

Nevertheless, I am deeply thinking of all of you and would like to wish you all the following;

” Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Maaf Zahir Batin”

I love you all to bits and although this is the second time around i havent been back for Raya, i am  absolutely thinking of you during my wake and sleep. Kirim salam sama itu duit raya, makanan sedap and open house.

    On behalf of us folks back home, we sincerely offer you a huge congratulation upon your graduation from the Ramadan’s Academy (Dr Lo’ Lo’ gave me this gem of idea of this unusual Hari Raya greetings). Don’t fret, we’re thinking of you and this year we would not quite celebrating the raya as it was before. We are staying put in KL. We are not even going back to Kuang or Kuching this time. We’ll be joining the droves of Bangladeshis, Pakis, and Indonesians performing the aidilfitri prayers in the KL main mosque.
    God willing we’ll going to KT on the second day for Hafifi’s (Pak Hj Yusof’s son who works with TNB) wedding somewhere in boondoks of Kuala Ibai, Terengganu. A week later faiz would be facing his PMR. So all your dosa to me sudah diampunkan. makan minum sudah dihalalkan. Likewise please forgive my shortcomings as a dad. Take care and wassalam. We’ll try to get online the night before raya. It might be difficult as the line maybe jammed up.
